Warriors

Saturday, October 22. 2005

I think there was more violence in the stands than on the field when UH played San Jose State today. Didn't seem like either team could really stop each other (hence the 45-38 score), just like security and the police couldn't stop people in the crowd from going at it. Three fights in section 129 (our section) alone. And not just pushing -- this was full-on, wind-up and let loose fighting. Blood...stitches...the forcible removal of people from the stadium...this was an exciting game.

The crowd never gets this rowdy when we watch the game at home.

Serenity

Saturday, October 8. 2005

Just saw Serenity. Damn. This movie is seriously making me re-think liking Star Wars (episode IV, not the new crap) so much. We even did our homework before going by borrowing the Firefly DVDs from Takashi and watching them during the week. You really don't have to -- it's good enough to stand on it's own. But it does make it more interesting.

I don't know, maybe it's the fact that we haven't been to the movies in a long time that made this seem so good. But I doubt it.

View from our seats

The company has 4 club level seats for the Giants at SBC Park. Right behind home plate, just under the announcer's booths. Very nice seats. So, thanks to a little good fortune, and the Astros being in town, we got to see Roger Clemens pitch today. It was a pretty even game until the 8th, when Scott Eyre pretty much imploded, and we lost 8-1. The highlight of the day was Giants pitcher Brian Cooper, in his first major league at-bat (against Clemens of all people), got a solid single up the middle.

That guy could be cleaning pools next week, but he will always be able to say he got a hit off Roger Clemens.

Sabbatical

Brent's office

So if you're lucky enough to have made it the 5 year mark here at work, you get a 4 week paid sabbatical. However, this has also become a time for departments to redecorate said lucky person's office/cube.

We've seen it all -- offices decked out in pink, a cube filled with styrafoam bits, even one that was turned into a putting green. So when our manager, a die hard republican, left for sabbatical - we knew exactly what we wanted to do. The pictures really don't do it justice. My favorite is the photo of his daughter that someone superimposed the face of a coworker.

Hootie!

Tuesday, July 12. 2005

After many years, and many opportunities, I finally saw Hootie. They played at Mountain Winery in Saratoga on Sunday night. Not what I would consider the normal Hootie crowd, but since I've never been to a Hootie concert before, how should I know? Definitely the 'wine and cheese' set, though. They did get really into it. But I swear, I was the only person in the crowd with a Hootie shirt on.

Not sure who the moron is in that situation.

Weak in the Force

laughing Read this review about the latest of Star Wars movie and couldn't stop laughing.

By the way, when the hell did it start costing $10 for a movie ticket? No wonder this is the first movie of 2005 I've gone to see.

Napa

artichokes!

We went to beer and wine tasting at Budweiser and Napa this weekend. The most exciting thing on our trip? Seeing these huge artichoke plants when we made a wrong turn and needed someplace to turn around.

Sew This!

Bought a nifty little sewing machine. Too bad I can't seem to follow directions. None of my projects look right.
