So, here's the story on how it all went down:

We went on our annual trip to Las Vegas on Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend and met my parents and Grandma there. On Monday, 1/21 we all went out to the Meadows Mall to take a break from losing and one of the places we ended up at was the Frisky Pet Emporium. Whenever we find a pet store with live dogs, we ALWAYS look. This time, one dog in particular kind of stood out. I remember telling Jen, "If you wanted to get that dog right now, I would." We were so close, and seriously considered it, but ended up not getting it. We got back to Cupertino Monday night and couldn't stop talking about the dog, so the next day we looked online to see if there were any dogs closer to us. But none were nearly as cute as the one in Vegas, so on Thursday day we decided to call and ask about it. We found out it was still there, and would cost $1100. By the time Saturday rolled around, we managed to talk ourselves out of it and decided not to go. But during the following week, we talked about it constantly and called again on Wednesday to see if it was still there. We got more details and even had them take a picture and send it to us to make sure we were talking about the right dog. Before we knew it, we were putting down a deposit ($200, non-refundable) and telling them we'd be there on Saturday to pick it up (Jen even talked them down to $900). We left Saturday morning at 4:30 AM in the CR-V started down through San Jose, then Gilroy, across to I-5, south to Wasco (Lost Hills), to Bakersfield, Barstow, then onto I-15 to Primm. By noon, we were parking the car at Main Street Station and had lunch at the Triple 7 Pub (not as good as I remembered). From there, we went to the Jerky Store in the Plaza and then around 2:00 PM we headed out to the Meadows. Getting the dog was fairly quick, we paid the difference on the deposit, filled out some forms, bought some food and a collar and we were off. We found out that there was a 10 day warranty on the dog, but you have to take it to their vet within 3 days of pick up. We weren't prepared for this, but decided to try and get her checked out. Luckily, we got the last appointment of the day and were in and out in 15 minutes. So by 3:45 PM we were back on the road. Going back seemed to take a lot longer, and we took the dog out every time we stopped for gas, but she never went. She was shivering for a lot of the drive, but more from nervousness than cold. We took turns driving, and holding the dog, and it started to rain about halfway up I-5, but we finally made it home. It was almost midnight when we pulled in. Once we got into the house, Jen put the dog down on the kitchen floor, and she left us a huge "gift" almost as soon as her paws touched the tile. Over 8 hours of being in the car, and she held it until we got home.

  1. Sam says:

Or as I would have told the story:

"I saw this dog in Vegas, so I drove back and got it the next weekend. The first thing it did when I got it home was shit on the floor."

Of course, I'm all about brevity. And it's not my dog so I'm not nearly as excited. Congrats on the dog tho, just remember that living with Jen it might not always be the dog that makes a mess on the floor...
